About build plates
The build plate decides how well the first layer sticks and how the underside of a print looks. Textured PEI grips PLA, PETG and ABS and releases once cool; smooth PEI gives a glossy finish; engineering and cool plates suit specific materials.
Plates are sized to the printer, and magnetic spring-steel plates need the matching magnetic base, so check the size and the printers each listing names.
Prices are checked against our own price history, so a deal only counts when the price is genuinely lower than usual, not just lower than a list price.
Common questions
Textured or smooth PEI?
Textured PEI is the easy all-rounder and hides layer lines on the bottom. Smooth PEI gives a glossy underside but grips PETG so hard it can tear the sheet, so use a glue stick with PETG.
