What SpoolDeal collects, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have.
Last updated
The short version
- We collect what we need to run your account, your alerts and the maker tools.
- We measure page views and retailer clicks ourselves; there are no third-party advertising trackers.
- Marketing emails only go to people who opt in, and alert and marketing emails have a one-click unsubscribe.
- You can see, change or delete your data in My Account, or by emailing us.
1.Overview
SpoolDeal helps makers discover and monitor 3D printing filament deals through search, curated collections, personal lists, price history, alerts and maker tools. This policy explains the data we collect, why we collect it and the choices you have.
SpoolDeal is run in the United Kingdom by James Watts (Trinkify3D). For anything about your data, email james@trinkify.co.uk.
2.Information we collect
- Account details such as your email address, display name and authentication identifiers.
- Profile preferences, including saved filters, alert settings, notification frequency and email choices.
- Content you contribute: deal submissions, reviews, photos, personal and shared lists, notes and moderation history.
- Business profile details you add in My Inventory (such as business name, logo, contact email, phone and address) for quotes and invoices.
- Customer details you enter for quotes or invoices (such as customer name, email, phone, address and order notes).
- Support messages and feedback you send us.
- Usage information, such as the pages you view and the retailer links you click (see Analytics below).
3.How we use information
- To run the service, including your dashboards, favourites, lists and collections.
- To send the price and stock alerts, digests and service notices you ask for.
- To administer accounts, prevent abuse and provide support.
- To generate, store and manage quotes or invoices using your business profile and customer details.
- To moderate submissions, enforce our guidelines and improve recommendations.
- To understand, in aggregate, which pages and deals are useful, and to plan improvements.
- To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
4.Analytics
We measure which pages are viewed and which retailer links are clicked, with a random session identifier stored in your browser (and your account ID if you are signed in), so we can see which deals and pages are useful. These measurements are stored in our own database.
When you click a retailer link, we also record the country the click comes from, which our host reads from the network; we never record your IP address.
We don't use third-party advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies.
5.Emails
We use Resend to deliver transactional messages, alerts and marketing emails. Delivery information (such as bounces and opens) may be logged so we can keep delivery reliable and diagnose problems.
Marketing emails, such as the weekly deals email and occasional news, only go to people who have opted in to each. Every alert and marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can change your choices at any time in My Account. Essential service emails continue while your account is active.
If you turn on notifications for a browser, we keep the address its push service gives us for that browser (and the browser's name) so we can send your price, stock and target-price alerts there. Your browser's maker (such as Google, Apple or Mozilla) delivers them, encrypted so it can't read them. Turn them off in My Account and we delete that address at once; if you block them in your browser instead, we delete it the next time a notification can't be delivered.
6.Cookies and browser storage
We use your browser's storage for things the site needs to work, including:
- keeping you signed in;
- remembering preferences such as view settings, your marketplace and prompts you've dismissed;
- the random analytics session identifier described above;
- if you arrive through a link someone shared, its referral code and campaign tags, so the person who shared it can be credited if you sign up;
- the products you've looked at recently and the price each showed, so we can tell you when one gets cheaper.
You can clear this data in your browser settings at any time; doing so may sign you out or reset your preferences.
7.Third-party services
- Supabase hosts our authentication, database, file storage and server functions.
- Resend delivers our emails and keeps suppression lists so unsubscribes are respected.
- Amazon provides product and price data.
When you follow a link to Amazon, AliExpress or another retailer, you leave SpoolDeal and that retailer's own privacy policy applies. Retailers may know that you arrived from SpoolDeal, because that is how affiliate commission works.
8.Data retention and security
We keep personal data only as long as we need it to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce agreements. Account data, alert settings and list content are kept while your account is active and deleted or anonymised within a reasonable period after closure, unless the law requires longer. Business profile details and quote or invoice data follow the same rules and can be removed by deleting those records or closing your account.
Access to production systems is restricted, data is encrypted in transit and we monitor for unauthorised access. No online system is completely secure, so please keep your password safe and tell us if you suspect unauthorised activity.
9.Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy of it. Much of this you can do yourself in My Account, including deleting your account; for anything else, email us.
We'll respond within a reasonable timeframe and may ask for information to confirm your identity first. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
10.Children
SpoolDeal accounts are for people aged 18 or over, as set out in our Terms.
11.Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we'll update this page and the date at the top.
